570 Million faRmers need to produce food for 10 Billion people with net zero co2
WHY ARE WE DOING ODAPES?
The global industrial agriculture and food system is fragile. IT COLLECTIVELY PRODUCES RESULTS THAT NOBODY WANTS. With 25%, it is a significant Greenhouse Gas Emitter. It has produced degraded land of the size of China. Biodiversity has shrunk to the point at which crops must be pollinated by hand. Poor yields put food safety at risk in many places of the world. Food quality has deteriorated to the extent that, obesity, overweight and micronutrient deficiency are now more important health risks than hunger. And it has redistributed wealth and income so far that now 50% of the world’s hungry people are farmers – THE FEEDING ARE NO LONGER FED. According to the IPCC 2014, climate change will diminish agricultural production by 2% every decade until 2050. At the same time, the current system needs to produce 56% more, as the global population and affluence will rise. Be it the climate, the land, the biodiversity, its farmers or its own consumers - the global industrial agriculture and food system cuts the basis of its own existence. It will not be able to tackle the challenge of the 21st century. IT COLLECTIVELY PRODUCES RESULTS THAT NOBODY WANTS – THAT IS, ITS OWN END!
